Domestic Violence Prevention Program
Client Profile
Men or women who have been violent in an intimate or family relationship. Some examples include straight/gay relationships; or family relationships such as adult parent/child(14 & up); siblings; in-laws and/or other family members.
Length
Total: 24 Hours
12 weekly sessions of two hours each.
Content
Anger Management Training. Assertiveness skills, feelings identification, conflict resolutions, communication skills, and high risk planning.
Cost
Total Cost: $400.
(10% discount if paid in full during 1st week - $360.)
Facts on Domestic Violence
• Nearly 1 in 3 adult women experience at least one physical assault by a partner during adulthood.
• Domestic violence is statistically consistent across racial and ethnic boundaries.
• Family violence costs the nation from 5 to 10 billion dollars annually in medical expenses, police and court costs, shelters and foster care, sick leave, absenteeism, and non-productivity.
• One-third of all female homicide victims are killed by husbands, ex-husbands, boyfriends, or ex-boyfriends.
• Some studies report that violence in a relationship is initiated as often by women as by men.
• A battering incident is rarely an isolated event.
• Battering tends to happen more frequently and severely over time.
• The prevalence of domestic violence among gay and lesbian couples is approximately 25-33%.
• Children who witness domestic violence are 6 times more likely to commit suicide.
• Child abuse is 15 times more likely to occur in families where domestic violence is present.
• A study conducted in 2002 by the Texas Council on Family Violence found that 31% of all Texans report that they have been severely abused at some point in their lifetimes.
• The same study found that Texas women report abuse at a higher rate than men.
• In the same study, 75% of all Texans reported that they would be likely to call the police if they were to experience some form of domestic violence. However, only 20.3% indicated that they actually did call the police when a friend or family member experienced domestic violence.

• A protective order issued by one U.S. state or Indian tribe is valid and enforceable in any other U.S. state or Indian tribe.
• Studies show a range from 25-80% of incidents of violence involve alcohol/drug use.
